WINTER
TOWNSHIP TAXES Winter taxes will be mailed during the first week
of December, 2006. They will be payable by February 14, 2007, without penalty.
Non-delinquent taxes may also be paid at any branch of Oxford Bank for only account
holders. Summer taxes were mailed the first week of July, 2006, and were due by
September 14, 2006. If paying summer and/or winter taxes after these due dates,
please contact the treasurer's office at 248-628-9787, ext. 103 for a revised
tax bill total. As of March 1, 2007, all delinquent taxes will be turned over
to the Oakland County Treasurer for processing and collection. CREDIT
CARD PAYMENTS FOR TOWNSHIP TAXES Township taxes can also be paid
by credit card by going to the Oakland
County website Fees associated with credit card payments will be the responsibility
of the user. We are currently exploring various financial institution debit card
programs that would allow taxpayers to have their tax bills and/or quarterly sewer
usage charges automatically withdrawn from either their checking or savings account. DOG
LICENSES Dog licenses will be available at the township front office
counter. Licenses are $7.50 for spayed/neutered and $15.00 for non-spayed/neutered
animals. The senior citizen charge (62 or older) is $6.75 for a spayed/neutered
dog and $13.50 for non-spayed/neutered dogs. A veterinary certificate of spaying/neutering
must be presented to obtain the lower rate. Proof of rabies must be provided for
all dogs four months and older. Checks made payable to Oxford Township and cash
are accepted. DO YOU HAVE YOUR HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION?
If your principal residence is located in Oxford Township or Oxford Village and
you have not filed a homestead exemption form, please contact the treasurer's
office as soon as possible. To qualify for a homestead for the entire tax year
of 2006, an owner must live in the property as of May 1, 2006. If the current
tax bill has 100% in the "% declared as homestead" box on your tax bill,
then the homestead exemption has been filed. HOMEOWNERS
TRANSFERRING PROPERTY INTO A TRUST Those homeowners that legally
transfer their property into a trust must file a Property Transfer Affidavit or
risk having their Taxable Value uncapped. The uncapping of the taxable value may
cause an increase in property taxes. Please call or stop by the treasurer's office
as soon as possible to file this important form. COUNTY
PROPERTY TAX SHIFT As a result of legislative action by the State
of Michigan, the General Property Tax Act has been amended to provide for the
following: One third of Oakland County's separate voted (fixed allocation) millage
of 4.19 mills shall be collected in July 2005 rather than in December 2005. Two
thirds of Oakland County's separate voted (fixed allocation) millage of 4.19 mills
shall be collected in July 2006 rather than in December 2006. 100 percent of Oakland
County's separate voted (fixed allocation) millage of 4.19 shall be collected
in July 2007 rather in December 2007. 100 percent of Oakland County's separate
voted (fixed allocation) millage shall be collected in July for each year after
2007. For example, a home with a market value of $250,000.00 and a taxable value
of $125,000.00 would pay $523.75 in Oakland County taxes (for 2004). In 2005,
a homeowner would pay $174.57 in additional summer taxes with the balance of $349.18
due in the winter. In 2006, a homeowner would pay $349.18 in additional summer
taxes with a balance of $174.57 due in the winter, In 2007, a homeowner would
pay the total $523.75 in additional summer taxes with no Oakland County taxes
due in the winter. Oakland County shall establish a restricted fund known as the
Revenue Sharing Reserve Fund and the law also directs how the money in the Revenue
Sharing Reserve Fund shall be used. TOWNSHIP TAX INFORMATION
