"Being elected township treasurer in 1992 has offered me the opportunity to serve residents of Oxford Township, which I truly love and enjoy. The Treasurer's Department is always there to assist Oxford Township residents any way we can."

SUMMER TOWNSHIP TAXES

Summer township taxes were mailed during the first week of July, 2009, to all non-escrowed Oxford Township taxpayers. Those residents with escrows will receive a paid copy once the applicable financial institution has made payment. Summer taxes are due by September 14, 2009. Summer non-delinquent taxes may also be paid at any branch of Oxford Bank. They can also be paid by credit card by going to the Oakland County website at
http://www.co.oakland.mi.us/paytaxes/index_current.html. Fees associated with credit card payments will be the responsibility of the user. If paying summer 2009 taxes after the due date, please contact the treasurer’s office at 248-628-9787, ext. 103 for a revised tax bill total.

TOWNSHIP DROP BOX

For your convenience, a drop box is located at the front of the new Oxford Township Offices at 300 Dunlap Road (off of Seymour Lake Road). We accept only checks or money orders in the drop box. PLEASE DO NOT PLACE CASH IN THE DROP BOX.

SUMMER TAX DEFERMENTS

The Oxford Township Treasurer’s Department is currently accepting applications for summer 2009 tax deferments. To qualify, a household income cannot exceed $40,000.00. The applicant must also be 62 years of age or older, paraplegic, quadriplegic, hemiplegic, eligible serviceperson, veteran, widow of widower, blind or totally and permanently disabled. Those that farm agricultural real property may also qualify. For more information, please contact the treasurer’s department at 248-628-9787, ext. 103. All deferment applications must be received by September 15, 2009.

DO YOU HAVE YOUR HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION?

If your principal residence is located in Oxford Township or Oxford Village and you have not filed a homestead exemption form, please contact the treasurer’s office as soon as possible. To qualify for a homestead for the entire tax year of 2009, an owner must live in the property as of May 1, 2009. If the current tax bill has 100% in the “% declared as homestead” box on your tax bill, then the homestead exemption has been filed.

ARE YOU TRYING TO SELL YOUR FORMER VACANT OXFORD HOME?

If your principal residence was located in Oxford Township or Oxford Village and you have not sold your home, you may qualify for a conditional rescission and keep your homestead exemption. A conditional rescission allows an owner to receive a homestead exemption on his/her current property and on previously exempted property simultaneously if the previous principal residence (all must apply) is not occupied, is for sale, is not leased and is not used for any business or commercial purposes. To qualify for a conditional rescission for the entire tax year of 2009, the form must have been submitted by May 1, 2009 and filed yearly (by December 31 of each year) as long as the situation remains the same. The conditional rescission can not be retroactive.

HOMEOWNERS TRANSFERRING PROPERTY INTO A TRUST

Those homeowners that legally transfer their property into a trust must file a Property Transfer Affidavit or risk having their Taxable Value uncapped.  The uncapping of the taxable value may cause an increase in property taxes.  Please call or stop by the treasurer’s office as soon as possible to file this important form.

SAFETY PATH UPDATE

Oxford Township has secured most of the necessary easements to extend the Drahner Road Safety Path from Christ the King Church east to Chirco Drive and from M-24 to Pontiac St. We are getting quotes on what it would cost to install these safety paths, including extending the culverts by the church.
